The library system in Salt Lake City, in a public building, five levels high, which houses thousands of books, internet's room and rooms of magazines and newspapers. Is public and is located in Utah.
The building was designed thinking in every detail, since lighting even the temperature, and particularly: the circulation.
To speak of circulation, we must first say how is the approach at the building. This is done obliquely, allowing us to recognize the building from afar, but having to pass a great space for access. The access of the inside, is crossing a large plaza, with beautiful gardens.
Inside of the building are two types of circulation: horizontal and vertical.
The horizontal circulation is the most important in any building, in this library is gives it character and make a nice building. In the first level, the horizontal circulation, is through a large corridor, quite wide, which runs from one extreme to the other of the building, and, in there, we can recognize the following levels, because is open up the roof. In subsequent levels, the horizontal circulation is through narrow corridors, and has bridges that connect both sides of the library. Then there is the vertical circulation, in this building can recognize two types of vertical circulation: elevators and stairs. The stairs have a very particular design, as resembling a spiral. And the elevators are lined with glass, so that we can see the outside, while changing the level.
I think this library is a great contribution to architecture, because it has good design and great solutions, which we can learn. It's pretty neat and easy to roam, making it an efficient and pleasant building.
